Jawatte Cemetery

The Jawatta cemetery is a considerably large area situated down the Torrington Road in Colombo 5. Apparently it is also known as Liveramentu Cemetery where about 300 gravestones commemorating the war heroes from the First and the Second World Wars are standing in the rear left hand corner of the cemetery. There is also a Liveramentu Cremation Memorial in the middle of that space commemorating about 150 Hindu soldiers who died from the wars. Apart from that, rest of the space is dedicated to gravestones of Sri Lankans in general. At the top of the mid hill is the crematorium.
