If you are interested in coins and banknotes from ancient Ceylon/Sri Lanka to the present, then please visit this small museum. It is operated by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka and the ground floor office sells some interesting publications. The museum is located on the first floor and again there is nothing to promote it. The displays are interesting but I just didn't have enough time to closely look at the exhibits. There is no real signage and parking is a huge problem.

This is indeed a historically important place for a developing country like Sri Lanka. And I respect the fact, people still value their origins and the past.

Central bank owned building, renovated by defence ministry in year 2014. This was a abondened building for many years. Pension department was operated here many years back.

Free entry. The staff working there are nice. Nothing particularly interesting if you are not into coin and currency history.

Built in 1914 it was the the tallest building the city for more than a decade now houses Financial crime investigation Division and Economic History Museum with communication division in the ground floor and a beautiful display in the first floor. Worth visiting.

Economic history museum was disappointing. However the currency museum was good but not that well maintained . Old coins were covered with some kind of fungus and some of the lights inside the show case were not working.

They renovated the place and turned into a museum. You can buy comommorative coins and central bank reports from the counter. The staff surprisingly friendly and explains all the history.

This is where the famous FCID and the currency museum and Colombo Port City office is located.
