It’s a finest place to hangout and chill with friends and family. Currently they won’t allow to use the main entrance due to renovation work. The building has an antique look. The restaurant was not so crowded. Covid19 health guidelines were followed at the entrance. Parking spaces available within the premises. Customer service was friendly and quick. The food was quiet good and prices were reasonable as per the portion.

The quality of food has gone down tremendously, got 3 packs of yellow rice for lunch last week, cost 780 per pack. It’s not about the price it was just tasteless, paying that price one expects some good quality tasty food, sadly it wasn’t. Never more will I waste my time buying food from this place. I would say it’s a total ripoff
Used to be one of the best places for lamprais..but man the quality has changed..it was sooo small( probably need about 3 of the packs to call a normal meal for a person) .. tasteless...not worth 100bucks or less.. will never go again .. Ps...bacon and eggs..still the bomb...( But then again why bother..)
Very bad slow service. Sad looking place. Not worth the money you pay. Portion sizes are extremely slow. They took over 1 hour to bring the food we ordered. Their excuse was that they had a group of 20 foreigners. How silly is that for a place with seating capacity over 100 pax. Ultimately bill was also wrong. No one was happy. Saw few customers blasting off the staff for delaying their food. Please don’t waste your time going here. This would be my first and the last.
Its primarily a club for members..however the VOC cafe which caters to the general public offers some great fare, reasonably priced Burgher specialities. Service is leisurely..and a great location to sit around and allow time pass you by. A calm restful bar upstairs( members only) to mellow with a single malt or two. Warm friendly service staff who love to chat with you if there's no rush. The club is undergoing a serious renovation and add ons. All in keeping with an architectural style of a gracious era long gone by.
The usual cafe entrance is closed for renovations so use the second gate. Their lamprais are still the best in Colombo
Lump rice is quite poor. Just rice and meat but no other curries that should be included in a good lump rice.
My experience at the DBU has always been pleasant; the atmosphere, the people and, of course, the food. A great place to enjoy a drink, a chat and a leisurely meal with friends.
