A well built and maintained worship place for Muslim brothers. Nearly 500 people can be accommodated for prayers. Although situated on the Gall Road itself ample parking place available. Bus halts in close proximity. Easy access to everyone.

The photos of the Wellawatte Jummah Masjid that I have uploaded to Google Maps, were taken in August 2003 The digital cameras of that era did not have the facility of GPS (Global Positioning System), where location of the Masjid would have been part of the meta data of the photograph. The center of any Muslim community is the Masjid (also known as Mosque) It is at the Masjid that congregational prayers are conducted 5 times a days. It is at the Masjid a weekly (Friday) where a sermon is delivered to the congregation. It is at the Masjid that people of the locality as well as travelers, gather to break their Fasts at sunset, during the days of the month of Ramazan. It is at the Masjid that people (as well as travelers) can take rest or recite the Holy Quran. Many Masjids are now providing facilities for ladies to participate in the activities of the Masjids, and hopefully (Insha Allah) it will become a standard feature of every Masjid. It is at the Masjid where children and youngsters are taught proper recitation of the Holy Quran and also to memorize part of the whole Quran. It is at the Masjid where Muslims gather for religious matters as well as to impart religious education to the youngsters of the locality. Masjids should also initiate courses where youngsters from the locality could also learn the Arabic language, especially Classical Arabic. Because ablution (ritual washing) is part of Muslim worship, right through history, Mosques were located wherever there were wells, that had high water levels. However, with the recent facility of tap borne water almost all mosques have modernized and done away with the wells. All these years Masjids have been places accessed only by Muslims, however, it is necessary, to invite people from other communities and faiths to visit Masjids, accompanied by Muslims of the locality, so that they would welcome, safe and comfortable at masjids. Let them witness for themselves the activities of the Masjid. Wa Salaams Imtiaz Muhsin
