Nice and informative place. Good tour, only you are not going in the tea fields. You get to see the factory machines and processes. Friendly staff. You'll get some tea to try at the end. Shop available to buy fresh tea.

This place is a must-visit for the lovers of tea and is amongst the top tourist places in Ella! Sri Lanka is famous the world over for its amazing Ceylon tea. Halpewatte Tea Factory invites tourists to come inside their premise and see how their favourite tea is made- right from plucking the tea leaves, processing till final packaging. This is the largest tea factor in the Uva region. After the tour, you can also have a cup of tea in their tea shop and take teas home. The factory is located at a beautiful vantage point with scenic views of the hills and valleys. Location: Badulla Road, Hela halpem Ella Timings: Every day 8:00 am- 5:00 pm Price: Adults LKR 763, INR 300, Children LKR 381, INR 150

When you go in, you could already smell the tea flavour, the tea shop is located up stairs and you will be able to enjoy the breathtaking view

Really good tour. March 2018. Guide was a bit hard to understand (native slang), but overall very informative and nice. We asked a lot of questions and were answered them all. Factory tour is great too, seeing all the machines & workers working. Tour is 450 RP per person, starts every half hour. Only on production days (call before or ask locals). Go early morning (opens 08:00).

Was an awesome experience but the place kind of felt closed or half empty until we started out actual tour. Part of this was because we arrived at a time between two large shifts of the workers, but even still there is no real welcoming experience for visitors. This aside, we got to see all the amazing machinery and workers at work, learn about the process from a very passionate guide, and have some tasters after. The shop seemed reasonably priced and there are some awesome views from the balcony and top shop level. Definitely worth doing!

Very interesting tour! The factory is filled with tea smell, it's wonderful. I've learned many new things about tea from a guy who was really passionate about it, by the way he was a tea taster. Better go there before 1pm. to see the real process of producing tea. I really recommend this place. After whole tour(40mins) there is a tea tasting(free) and then you can buy some tea if you want( only). Cost: 540/ for 1 person. PS. The view from their tea shop/tea room is absolutely stunning!!!
