Waterfalls overlooking Ella. It's a 30 minute walk along the railway lines to get to this place. Keep an ear out for approaching teains...not that frequent and you will pass,a few places where you can get food and drink. There are some good views there and you can also climb up to Ella rock.

Last rain forest in Sri Lanka ... even paved path where motorcycles are passing, they don't let you walk alone and the guided tour are really pricey, 4500 Rpts. Despite saying we will start at 6.30, the actual start was at 8 and of course, most animals are hidden at this time already, so 1 snake, 1 iguana and luckily a bunch of black and white monkeys by the waterfall.

Even in the warmer period of the year where there wasn't much rain, the waterfalls is still a beautiful sight to behold. We walked down the hill to the base of the falls and we were not disappointed. The advantage of a lower rate of flow is that we could go all the way to the base of the falls. The rocky way to the base is worth scrambling over. We met a local guy who showed us his photos taken in May 2018 when the flow rate of water was very high. The falls was magnificent! The base of the falls can be accessed from both sides of the valley. One easy way of reaching the base is to start from the Kithaella (or Kitha Ella) train station. 50 metres away from the station is a small path in the grass. You can seek help from the train station master to find this path. The short trek down to the base of the falls will take about 15 to 20 minutes.
