We had the most amazing experience at our cooking class! The whole 3 hours was educational and entertaining! We would HIGHLY recommend! I would note that you have to go to them a day or so before to pay and confirm your booking as it’s the only way to secure a spot and you wouldn’t want to miss out!

My family and I opted for the cooking class, which we all enjoyed. The class was interactive and our teacher was humorous, providing us many a good laugh. Highly recommend this for groups.

I've done several cooking classes in different countries around the world. This was definitely one of the best ones, where you left with the feeling to have learned something. You and up to seven other students will spend 2-3 hours in a family home kitchen preparing four curry dishes. It's a bit less hands-on then other cooking classes I've done, but the chef made sure that everyone took turns doing the chores and quizzing us about what he taught us. He is a great and entertaining teacher, making sure that the knowledge sinks in. One way to ensure that is by providing everyone with a fill-in-the-blanks cookbook which we filled out during class. And - contrary to other cooking classes I've done around the world - the recipes in the book are very precise down to every little detail. I'm feeling more than confident that I'll be able to cook those dishes at home! From the recipes we cooked the dhal and potato curries were my favorite and nothing short of the great dishes I had at other Sri Lankan restaurants. If I wouldn't feel confident to prepare those dishes already, I would instantly go there again!

Sri Lanka is not known as the ‘Spice Island’ for nothing! The country has the best and the most exotic spices grown indigenously. If you a food connoisseur and want to learn where your spices come from, a visit to the Ella Spice Garden is an important place to visit in Ella. This is a private setup run by a local family to make people appreciative about local growing techniques and the thousands of varieties of Lankan spices. An English speaking person will give you a tour of this beautiful property. Travellers love to walk amidst the intoxicating fragrance of spices like cinnamon, cloves, chillies, turmeric, nutmeg, cacao, coffee, etc. Here, you can also take a special cooking class or just indulge in a wonderful traditional meal. Just make sure to book your visit in advance to these wonderful tourist places in Ella. Location: Wellawaya-Ella-Kumbalwela highway, Ella Timings: 5:00- 8:00 pm every day Price: LKR 3,800, INR 1,500

100 lkr A 20-minute visit. Really small. Nice because the guy explains a few things. Could be improved with a making it bigger, more organized and selling juice on site.

Excellent informative and entertaining cooking class. You receive a small cook book of the recipes from the class that you complete and add notes as you do the class. We learnt all about the spices and differences between Indian and Sri Lankan cooking before preparing 4 dishes. The teacher was very entertaining and kept you engaged for the the whole class. Can't wait to try out the dishes at home!

Magnificent cookery class - the teacher was fun, clear and spoke impeccable English, and made the whole experience really fun. The recipes are practical and all involve ingredients that you'll likely be able to find back home. The final result is a feast that you can really see yourself cooking again and again. Absolutely loved it, and would recommend to anyone who wants to learn a bit of Sri Lankan cooking. Very good value at 2500 rupees too, especially since it includes a full meal at the end!
