I loved the old piers here and there was a rusted old ship wreck just off one of the piers, filled with sand making a unique site on the beach. Fun spot, but if I were going swimming, I would probably head to the beach next to the lighthouse instead. Great views of the bay from here.

This is a swimming spot between the old jetty and Galle's Mercantile Seamen Training Institute. This is the only safe place for open air public swimming in the city of Galle. This was also the place where school children in Galle learned swimming in the past. That is in the era before Richmond College and Mahinda College built their own swimming pools. There is a sign saying "Richmond Swimming Club" and Richmondites still practice here open air swimming. It is a quit spot. School children swim. People fish. You have a glimpse of the Black Bastion built by the Portuguese. You have a view of Galle's bay and the distant buzz of the city.
Good place to visit with friends.
