Swarnamali Balika Viddyalaya is a one of the leading public government schools in Kandy. The school had come a long way since its humble beginning in 1928 about 85 years ago. This school was inaugurated as "Maha Nagarika Pasala" with 164 students and 4 teachers. Named as "Nagarika Balikawa' in 1963 and gained mahavidyalaya statuts in 1979. Today it functions as a good Buddhist government school in Kandy.Champion Runner Amaya Silva comes from this school.
