This place was recommended by our tour guide. I must say I had low expectations, but damn, I was surprised to learn that it was very interesting. You don't have to be a geologist to enjoy these stunning gems. The guide speaks good English and will show/tell all you wonder about. Ofc they will try to sell you a gem later, the price tags are high but so is the quality. Entry is free of charge because of this selling later. The choice is yours however. This building also houses the world largest and 2nd largest sapphire rock on over 800kg (picture)

I visited this place during my trip to Sri Lanka last week. Initially the Tuk Tuk driver brought me here and the staff of this place did a sort of information tour about gems in the store. Later showed me blue sapphire, white sapphire and one Ruby. I got 3 of them over priced (220 USD) after I checked the real price in Europe not even 10 USD per piece. In addition, the certificates from Sri Lanka do not have any value in Europe at the eyes of jewellery shops here. I would totally avoid to buy any gems in Sri Lanka, as a tourists we do not have any knowledge about and not able to check technically the gems before buying. Please avoid! More over, the price includes a commission for the Tuk Tuk driver because he brought us here. As you can see, these things make sad the person who comes to visit Sri Lanka, it's a non stop battle against scammers, cheaters and overrated pieces for tourists. So sad! I got ripped off in this store and by the Tuk Tuk driver, I also went to a tea factory and bought some tea with commission for the driver. No way to check prices beforehand, faked kindness, just a gentle smile from someone who is desiring to rip you off. Hope this can help tourists as me to avoid such bad souvenirs from Sri Lanka. Below photos of gems and certificates with no value in Europe.

This is one of the best places to explore and learning about Ceylon Natural Gems and Jewellery. Well experienced Girls Who are professionally qualified about Ceylon sapphires will be explained the total history about their valuable gems stones found in Sri Lanka. We will get a wonderful experience about all different types of sapphires found in srilanka and it's really worth for the money. No one insist us to buying any gems stone. It's a complimentary visit during your stay in Sri Lanka. I recommend you to visit this Place on your way to Kandy. No fake stones and no cheating. They are really genuine gemologist in Sri Lanka.

Beautiful experience and really informing. Our guide was passionate and polite, and he liked using our native words to keep us a part of the tour. The entire tour was free of charge, and you can buy something form the shop at the of the tour. All in all a beautiful museum.
