My friend Anni and I had an overall pleasent stay of two weeks at the downwinder lagoon of KiteWorldWide in Kalpitiya, in August this year! The spot is perfect for beginners and intermediates as the access is quite shallow and you have wonderful flat water (even though it's not Caribbean blue). You get shuttled their everyday by boat around half past 9 in the morning and back at around half past 4 PM which is as fast as it makes fun. Additionally they offer a wonderful downwinder to some secret spots in Dutch Bay (e.g. Vella Island) once a week (in agreement some more) and accompany you with their motorboats. The lodge itself is very clean and beautiful with wonderful flowers, lots of palm trees and an architectural mixture between traditional Srilankan and modern minimalist design, housing a very clean and warm swimming pool in it's center. The staff around inimitable Hedda, gentle manager Laka, the always friendly and courteous Ramesh, brilliant chef Alex and lovely Diana is the most friendly I ever experienced and helped wherever they could immediately and with excellence, that leaves no desires unfulfilled. The kite teachers and "beachguys" around Björn and Myril always did their best to ensure as much time on the water as possible, for every learner and expert. These holidays I didn't "just went kitesurfing" but made a lot of new friends, not least with all the wonderful other guests from all over the world!
