Straight from Adam's peak, and a few stops at the numerous waterfalls along the road to Nuwara Eliya, we found a tiny parking space on street, 150m from The Pub.
We were looking for a quick bite before nesting in our Airbnb, so we decided to taste the culinary skills of the in house chef of The Pub.
First impression wasn't totally wooow as we had to climb up the 2 smoking levels of the drinking part of the Pub before accessing the restaurant. Which is non smoking.
The atmosphere was heavy, my wife being one of the only 2 female customers in the joint.
So we sat at our solid timber table (actually a slice of trunk ) and browsed through the menu brought by a friendly (but coughing) waiter.
It a pub ( as we guessed from the name ) diner ordered 2 draft beer, and because we were in the restaurant part, a fried rice (nasi goreng ) and a French fries platter.
To out it simply, it's the best nasi goreng we had since we arrived Srilanka. Even better than some places in Indonesia, the world specialist.
It was accompanied by a small dish of spices that was hot, but tasty, and helped us to give that nasi goreng a 9 out of 10.
It was enormous, in size, and delicious.
French fries were thin, deep fried, crispy, srilankan style and very tasty. Not oily at all.
We washed the 2 dishes down with our Lion draft beer, easily toping tigers, beers, elephant, and any other kind of animal branded beers. Superb.
So our expectations were low, and indeed, the dim lighting, smokes, and heavy furniture were a reminder of the joints in 1800's London, but the food, although simple, blew our expectations away.
Without the coughing (but friendly) waiter, I would probably have given a 5 stars rating.
