Our favourite place in Sri Lanka. Paradise! Wow, where do I start? Firstly, the location is awesome. Right on the lagoon and a 5min boat ride to the kite surfing spot. Coconut trees are everywhere and the surroundings are very untouched. Secondly the people were brilliant. The staff were so friendly and really cared about our needs. They were also super flexible and tried to accomodate us in every way they could. The grounds were also very cool. Very authentic and quirky, we didnt really find anything else in Sri Lanka quite like it. Also they really focus on being sustainable as much as possible but manage to not let you lose any luxury. The wifi was good and the Cabanas were very pretty and clean as well. Each one had its own private outdoor shower. The food was exceptional. The best we had in Sri Lanka! So generous, wholesome and delicious! I learned alot of the culture through their food here. The kite surfing was also amazing! The wind was consistant everyday. I did a beginner course and my boyfriend did a refresher. The instructors were brilliant and super patient with us. We were up and riding on our second and third days already. I definetly didnt think we'd be able to pick it up so quickly. Even if you are not doing a course they watch out for you and will rescue you if necessary. Nice to know, especially if your starting out. They also offer massages, morning yoga and have cool chill spots to read and relax. I highly recommend this place. I promise you'll leave with a full tummy and heavy heart.

A super spontaneous holiday, which after 2 weeks feels way too short, as always. And too beautiful. Already, the lagoon around Kalpitiya has a very special place in our hearts. A very special thank you to the whole team at Ruuk Village. From day one on, they have read all our wishes from the lips, even before they arose. Sameera, Sajith and Janaka have kept the beautiful open bungalow-style area in the best order. Gochira and Shehan have perfectly used the not so easy wind conditions to teach us all the steps into reaching Level 2 kiters. Rani, with her incredibly wonderful local cuisine, has more than enchanted our mouths. And Abdul, as local manager, has always gone one step further than we ever had hoped for. An incredibly beautiful team in an incredibly beautiful place on earth. More pics on Instagram @dermessing

We love this place! Great to relax and unwind. Fantastic yoga lessons. Great kitesurf spot, also for beginners. Good kite lessons. Fantastic food - incredibly good and diverse. A place to forget about time and dates. Highly recommend to stay here if you are looking for something simple and good.

What a lovely place! Stayed for 7 days and had a real blast. It’s a perfect destination if you’re looking for a quite and remote place, especially if you are a kitesurfing lover. The lagoon and constant wind makes it a good spot for kitesurfing. The kitesurfing school is really good: great teacher (Vytis) and good renting equipment. We took a full-board package and I would recommend it to all since Kalpitiya village doesn’t have much to offer in terms of restaurants and the ladies in the kitchen cook amazing food. I would describe it as simple, healthy, authentic and delicious. The place also attracts laid-back clients from all over Europe. Everyone was very open minded and social. In the evenings we used to stay all together having a cold beer and a good chat. It really felt like a big hippie family. The staff are very friendly and caring. The manager, Gamma, will make all your wishes become true. He also was very helpful when we needed to get to our next destination.

I’m in awe of the Ruuk team, what they are aiming to become and what they are already pulling off. We spent a good two weeks in this nature paradise, so pristine, good hearted and relaxed. If you are looking for true Sri Lanka hospitality, still want some perks from west and wanna kitesurf in Kalpitiya, this is the place to go!

Very nice Project next to the kite lagoon. You live in the nature while being served local food clocked fresh every time. Staff is helpful and courteous. Kite surf lessons where conducted in a professional manner. I’ll be back, when I have the chance.

Nice eco resort close to the kite lagoon. The basic cabanas are spacious and clean. Meals are delicious and eaten at a large wooden table where everyone meets. There is also a chill-out area with hammocks and bean bags.
