Each lighthouse has its own character and its own history making each unique. Thalaimannar light house in the same way has its own character standing tall like a mushroom on a paved broad circular platform. Built in 1915, it is a landmark for this shore line. It would have guided many thousands of fishing crafts that operated in theses straights before GPS technology came in to use. This structure is at the beach and on flat ground close to the fisheries centre. Visit was worthwhile.

Talaimannar lighthouse ,Situated at the end of Talaimannar Road is the Talaimannar pier. The ancient light house there is a construction done by the British in 1915. It is a white concrete round cylindrical tower with a height of 17 metres. Every five second, a light which has the luminous range of 10 NM flashes as a beacon to vessels out at sea. The lighthouse is not used at present even though it is in working condition.
Light House It is located in Thalaimannara on Mannar Island in Nothern Sri Lanka.It was built in 1915 and ot is height in 19 metres and has cylindrical tower with latern and gallery .The tower is colour in white.The range of Light house is 10 noutical miles ( 19 km) Talaimannar Pier There is an important landmark to the old railway link to India.The pier is now being controlled by Sr Lanka Navy.Curently People are not allowed to enter without prior permission.A very good place to visit and observe in Mannar District.

Located just near the Thalai Mannar Railway station - almost 35KM away from the Mannar main town. Light house, Bambar Bridge and the dead end of the Mannar railway line
This was such a beautiful experience. This is where the old board service started to India. The view is mind blowing of you go there to see the sun go down.
