Very beautiful kovils in the Kankasanthurai area. Seems very historic and there seems to be some reconstruction that is underway currently. The artistry and the architecture here is breathtaking, you can simply get lost for hours admiring them. Please go have look if you are ever in the region.

மாவிட்டபுரம் கந்தசுவாமி கோவில் ! The name Maviddapuram is derived from ma (horse), vidda (removed) and puram (holy city) belongs to Murugan (second son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi). Maviddapuram Murugan Temple is one of three famous Murugan Temple in Jaffna peninsula with Nallur and Selvasannithi. History reveals that was built in approx. 5,000 years back. The temple was destroyed and rebuilt couple of times and the records confirms that the present was built at the time of 17th century, which is located in Valikamam region from the northern part of Sri Lanka (It is near to Palali Airport, Port City of Kankesanthurai and Keerimalai). Early 1990s and following years the region was declared as High Security Zone (HSZ) because of the civil war. Later, at the end of civil war all the security was loosen and freely permitted to devotees as well as tourists. The annual temple festival celebrated for twenty five (25) days during the Tamil month Ani (probably June 15 to July 15), where thousands of devotees gathered on the 24th day Chariot Festival day (Ther Thiruvizha) as it is known in Tamil. The pilgrims travelled from all over the island and even from overseas, to get the blessings of Lord Murugan. The temple was declared an archaeological protected monument in December 2011 and was circulated thru the Gazette of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.
