Our tour group had a fantastic day attending the fresh produce, spice & fish markets. Nautilus encouraged any questions and getting amongst it with the locals! There was lots of interesting items we had no knowledge of and was great to learn about.

Nautilus cooking class is an awesome half day experience ! It includes a market visit via a tutuk where you pick the vegetables that you want to include in your curry. You will also receive a copy of the recipe for future cooking adventures when you return home. Yamuna (teacher) was patient to explain the steps and assisted accordingly. The end result was a range of delicious curries! I highly recommend trying out the eggplant curry. I will definitely be trying to make these curries when I get home. At the current time, the purpose built cooking school is under expansion and renovation so we undertook the class inside Yamuna's home. This should be finished before December 2018.

Very nice and informative cooking class, we first went to the vegetable and spice market to pick our preferred vegetables before heading back to prepare the dishes. Yamuna was very patient and answered all our questions- the finished curries tasted absolutely amazing!! We also learned how to make coconut milk and got the printed recipes as well. For two people it’s 3000LKR per head, it’s definitely worth it if you’re in Unawatuna and you‘d like to learn more about Sri Lankan cooking!

This is an absolute must do while in Sri Lanka. Would highly recommend this class and experience! We called up the day before to book in. We were easily accommodated and for only 3000 rupees we got taken to the market in Galle by tuk tuk to get the food we cooked. There is also the chance to buy your own spices to take home. Then you come back and make it yourself under the guidance of Yamuna who knows what she is doing and is absolutely lovely. Best food we have had and one of the best thing we have done in Sri Lanka!

We didn't take the cooking class, but I sent a message to the teacher asking what time she offer these classes. She did respond, but then we took a class at our guesthouse (because it was cheaper and we did all the things we would do here) and I wrote her back and thanked for the info and said that we will take cooking class at another place. And then she wrote me back: thank you for wasting my time. Sorry, but this place does not deserve 5 stars, this respond was just everything else but nice. This is not a way to treat people.

We had a lovely morning at this cookery school. For a mere 3000 rupees.(around 18 each) we got to choose vegetables in the market after a crazy tuk tuk ride in monsoon rain, explore the spice shop and fish market, learn how to cook black fish curry, several veg curries and sambols. Then we got to eat it! The food itself would have been worth the price. It was the best we had while in Sri Lanka. We had 3 generations of the family in the class...age range from 15 to 76 and everyone had a great time. Highly recommended! The class started at 9 and we were actually booked for the next day but they were very flexible and changed the day for us at very short notice (2 hours before) when another trip cancelled because of the rain. Really helpful, flexible and professional. My mum is Sri Lankan and raved about the food!
