Beautiful traditional Sri Lankan cooking experience with Karu and his daughter Chaya. You learn about spices and traditional ways of cooking in the Sri Lankan cuisine and then get to cook different kinds of Sri Lankan dishes ranging from Dhal to Pumpkin and Fish curry. The food was super tasty and Karu and Chaya were very kind and thoughtful. Highly recommend this cooking class!

The cooking class was excellent. We got a good overview about the traditional cooking methodes and their ingridiences. There was a personal and relaxed atmosphere. The dinner we cooked an eat consisted of 6 different meals.

I'm so glad I chose Karu's Kitchen for my cooking class. I came with my teenage daughter in February and we loved it. Karu is such a lovely man; you can tell he's spent a lifetime in teaching from the thought and planning he's put into his course. His outdoor kitchen is the perfect environment in which to learn and practise. We cooked five traditional curries with rice, making the curry powder and coconut milk from scratch. It was a real bonus not just to learn the cooking but also about the origins and cultivation of rice, coconut and spices, to use traditional tools for threshing, grinding and shredding and also to find some of our ingredients growing in the garden. Great hospitality, highly recommended. A highlight of our time in Sri Lanka. Thank you Karu!

This is a gem! I don’t know what I loved the most, Karu’s outdoor kitchen, fitted with ancient Sri Lankan tools (which we learned about and used), the actual food we were able to make (which is based on Karu’s original recipes) or the family (i can’t express my gratitude and appreciation for this lovely family enough). We made the most delicious curries we tasted on the island! Pumpkin, baby jackfruit, daal, beetroot, eggplant and coconut sambol.. the whole experience was surreal and meeting Chaya, Karu’s daughter, was the cherry on top. I couldn’t recommend this experience enough!

We learned how to make a proper sri lankan fish curry, and dhal, also jackfruit curry and pumpkin as well. We saw some ancient techniques how rice were grounded and coconut as well. We cooked so much good food that it was impossible to eat all, even we would like to as it was really tasty. Mr. Karu and his daughters and son are nice and welcoming, speaks of traditions and customs in kitchen but normal life also. We advice all to take that lesson but save time(at least 2-3 hours) you dont want to rush on it, just calmly and slowly understand all the things you were shown. Thanks a lot to Mr. Karu and his family, highly recomended. Martin and Jasňa.
