Very popular and very beautiful place to visit with family members. Because I live in Bandarawela. It has a cool climate. All people in this town are kind hearted and very friendly to everyone. There are many beautiful and historical places to visit in Bandarawela.

This is the centre point for many great places to visit. Talk to local authorities for more information and they love to help. Best time to visit is March to Sep and during Oct to Feb records much cold and rain weather. However don't forget accommodation is much cheaper if you move few Kms away from city.

Bandarawela (බණ්ඩාරවෙල) is the second largest town in the Badulla District which is 28 km (17 mi) away from Badulla. Bandarawela is 200 km (120 mi) away from Colombo and about 125 km (78 mi) away from Kandy, the two capital cities of Sri Lanka. Thanks to its higher altitude, compared to surrounding locations, Bandarawela has milder weather conditions throughout the year making it a tourist destination for locals. Bandarawela is within hours reach of surrounding towns and cities by both road and rail. The town is influenced by its colonial history and rests among dense, lush forestation occupying a niche among visitors as a base for eco-tourism.

The city of Bandarawela, nestled in a vast expanse of mountains, is truly an inspiring city. Many people are of the opinion that "Wela which belonged to Bandara Mudali" later became "Bandarawela". weather The main reason why the city of Bandarawela is world famous is its temperate climate. Although the climate is very similar to that of neighboring Nuwara Eliya, Bandarawela has a more favorable climate than Nuwara Eliya. Unlike Nuwara Eliya, which is extremely cold, foggy and humid, the climate of Bandarawela is mild with cool winds. Bandarawela, about 5 km from Diyatalawa, is not as crowded as Nuwara Eliya, but many tourists who know the coolness of Bandarawela come to enjoy the coolness. Places to visit Dowa Rajamaha Viharaya About 3 km from Bandarawela towards Badulla you can see the historic Dowa Raja Maha Vihara along the Badulla Bandarawela Highway. Legend has it that this place provided shade for King Walagamba and his army during the war. It is believed that the tunnel, which can still be seen inside the temple, leads to a secret place known only to King Walagamba and his associates. Ravana Falls Traveling from Bandarawela towards Wellawaya town you can see a beautiful flowing waterfall. Many people call it 'Ravana Ella'. Although this is a beautiful stream that attracts local and foreign tourists on the Bandarawela-Wellawaya highway, another waterfall called 'Ravana Ella' can be seen nearby. Although not a major tourist attraction, archaeologists say that this is the true Ravana Falls that Sita hid from Ravana in ancient times. Nine Bridge The Sky Nine Bridge at Demodara, close to Bandarawela, is also a popular tourist attraction.
