Asokaramaya Buddhist Temple is one of those magnificent spots that should not be missed when you are in Colombo. Unappealing on the outside, it offers an astonishing view inside. The temple boasts some of the finest wall murals in the country, with refined details and colours. The temple is very appreciated by the Buddhist worshippers for its quietness and warm atmosphere.

The Asukaramaya Buddhist Temple is one of the most important tourist places in Colombo, which attracts visitors to see the art of building this temple and watch Buddhists practice their religion rituals, and the history of this temple dates back to 1873 when a Buddhist monk came to this village and worked to gain many acquaintances and friendships, where the residents admired him. Itanamadala village, and they always listened to his Buddhist speeches, and as a result, this place was built to commemorate his memory.

My favorite temple in Colombo. Small, tranquil, and beautifully adorned with statues depicting the life of the Buddha. There is a bodi tree to the left of temple and a stupa on its right.

Spacious compound, provision for an alms giving to accommodate priests and guests. On weekdays the front area is used by office staff near the vicinity for parking their vehicles. If you park there for a short visit to the temple it's likely that the office crowd could park their cars blocking yours as everyone expects to be back only in the evening after office! It happened to me once and it was very difficult to trace the driver!

Calm, peaceful and nice temple located on a rock but can travel by vehicle easily.

Statues and paintings inside are breathtaking, extremely colourful and well preserved. Small temple but worth a visit if close by.

The feeling once you are inside is of awe and wonder. How beautiful but simple architecture. The reclining Buddha is a site to behold. As we spent our time immersed in the magnificence, we prayed to Him. The feeling is like no other.
