Beautiful church, the Samuel Bakers family tombs and specially that of Mrs. Bakers tomb makes the tombstones special. Samuel B is credited for discovering the source of the white Nile which he names Lake Victoria. On his excursions to and in Africa, Florence his wife accompanied him. The bakers made Nuwara Eliya their home in 1864. The stained glass window gifted by her majesty Queen Elizabeth II to commemorate her visit to the church in 1954, the beautiful Nora's Arch structure of the church roof makes the Holy Trinity a beautiful stroll for 2 hours . Photos inside the church was not allowed
Holy Trinity Chappel- Nuwara eliya A meeting was held in 1845 to build a chappel and one gentleman named Nelson was appointed as an architect. the estimated cost was sterling pounds 900. work was done by the 15th regiment under the supervision of Major Bunker. the chappel was opened on 24th february 1852. further enlargements were done to the eastern side in 1889. it also has a pipe orgen which is still functioning. the chappel land has many tomb stones which tell the hard and difficult story of britishers life in the island. Many have died at the very young age due to malaria and accidents.
This is one of the most beautiful & peaceful place in Nuwara Eliya. You'll bever regret spending time here especially in the evening (after 4pm). The atmosphere is something cannot be described in words. Go inside & inquire about the pipe organ out there, you'll get amazed for sure! PS: Photography is prohibited & taken with permission.
More interesting place. Built beautifully. One of tallest piano can see there. Queen Elizabeth visited to this church. Graveyard of 1st and 2nd world way soldiers one more interesting. No photographs allowed. When you in Nuwaraeliya you should not miss it.
The church of the Holy Trinity was thus built in 1845 atop a hillock a little away from the flurry of Nuwara Eliya town. The oldest pipe organ of Asia available in here. They are playing it every Sunday for the church mass I'm not uploading the photos of inside church bcz u must go there and see
A church with a wonderful history. It was maintained well and the site guide we met at the church explained the importance of this church very nicely. Loved the overall experience.
