I called this service to transport an unconcious worker after a injury to the hospital. Telephone Operators were so polite and helpful. Their response was so fast and two staff who came to take the patient were professional and skillful too. Able to send the patient to the hospital in double quick time and save the patient. All this for free of charge. Great service and big thank you for Suwa Seriya team.

In 2019, due to an injury on my lower limb area I could not properly walk and get myself admitted to a local infirmary. When I called 1990 Suwa Seriya Hot line , I was interviewed briefly about my pathophysiology by a paramedic and they promptly sent an emergency medical transport vehicle to my door step in 10 mins where the paramedic on board attended to all the necessary documentation so I could receive in-house medical attention at a local infirmary, all FREE OF CHARGE.

This is the free ambulance service in Sri Lanka. This project India-assisted ‘SuwaSariya’ 1990 emergency ambulance service. Anyone can call 1990 and get an ambulance absolutely for free. The emergency ambulance service was launched l in Sri Lanka to serve the Western and Southern Provinces, with services now available in the whole country. This service is the brainchild of Deputy Minister Dr. Harsha De Silva, MP who with the blessings of the President, and the Prime Minister successfully requested the Government of India to provide a grant for implementation of Phase I of the service with 88 ambulances in Western and Southern provinces. The service now covers all of Sri Lanka, with 297 ambulances operating throughout the country. Of these, 27 ambulances are operating in the Eastern, Trincomalee, Batticaloa and Ampara Districts. To date, the service has responded to 1,133,344 telephone calls and dispatched 219,371 ambulances to reach the patient in an average of 12.58 minutes. In addition, there have been 89 births in the ambulance.

My uncle fainted due to high pressure and diabetes when getting down from a bus. An unknown good person has called for this free ambulance service and they have admitted my uncle to general hospital Colombo and saved his life at correct moment. He was wearing gold ring and had company cash as well but everything has been handed over to him safely. Thanks for the service and government.
